The President also directed the dictator to hold elections, as Zelensky had been ruling unelected since 2024.
Trump made these statements to Dasha Burns of Politico during an interview on Monday – the transcript of which was published Tuesday morning.
When Burns asked Trump which country (Russia or Ukraine) has the stronger negotiating position, Trump said, “Well, there can be no question about it. It’s Russia. It’s a much bigger country.”
Interestingly, Trump is now saying that Russia will win the war, a complete 180 from September when he said, “Ukraine would be able to take back their Country in its original form and, who knows, maybe even go further than that!”
The President is now saying:
“We have to … you know, they [Ukraine] have to play ball. If they, uh … if they [Ukraine] don’t read agreements, potential agreements, you know, it’s, uh, not easy with Russia ’cause Russia has the upper … upper hand,” Trump told Politico on Monday. “And they always did. They’re much bigger. They’re much stronger in that sense. I give Ukraine a lot of … a lot of … I give the people of Ukraine and the military of Ukraine tremendous credit for the, you know, bravery and for the fighting and all of that. But you know, at some point, size will win, generally. And this is a massive size, uh … you … when you take a look at the numbers, I mean, the numbers are just crazy.”
Burns also asked Trump if it’s time for Ukraine to hold elections, something the Dictator has refused to do numerous times.
“Yeah. I think so. It’s been a long time. It’s, uh … hasn’t been doing particularly well. Yeah, I think it’s time. I think it’s an important time to hold an election,” Trump said. “They’re using war not to hold an election, but, uh, I would think the Ukrainian people would … should have that choice. And maybe Zelenskyy would win. I don’t know who would win. But they haven’t had an election in a long time. You know, they talk about a democracy, but it gets to a point where it’s not a democracy anymore.”
On Monday Infowars reported how the Dictator had traveled to London to meet with his European enablers. There, Zelensky called for adding pressure to Russia in order to attain a “dignified peace” – likely a term synonymous with the term “his way or the highway” due to the reluctance to cede any territory to Russia.
“The Americans are in the mood to find compromises. But there are clearly difficult issues regarding territory, and no compromise has been reached there,” Zelensky told journalists. “Russia is, of course, insisting that we give up territories. We, naturally, don’t want to do that and that’s what we’re fighting for.”
On Tuesday Zelensky claimed that he is working with the Europeans toward a peace deal which he will submit to the Americans very soon. Interestingly, the last time Zelensky took an American peace plan to the Europeans it was picked apart until it became unacceptable to the Russians.
Today, we already discussed with our negotiating team the results of yesterday’s work in London, which was conducted at the level of the National Security Advisors of our European partners. This was agreed upon yesterday at the leadersʼ level.
We are working very actively on all components of potential steps toward ending the war. The Ukrainian and European components are now more developed, and we are ready to present them to our partners in the U.S. Together with the American side, we expect to swiftly make the potential steps as doable as possible.
We are committed to a real peace and remain in constant contact with the United States. And, as our partners in the negotiating teams rightly note, everything depends on whether Russia is ready to take effective steps to stop the bloodshed and prevent the war from reigniting. In the near future, we will be ready to send the refined documents to the United States. Glory to Ukraine!
Trump mentioned in his interview how President-via-autopen Joe Biden sold Zelensky on a war which resulted in a quarter of his country being lost:
Lost territory is now the sticking point as Ukraine is using Zelensky’s reluctance to cede territory to Russia as a means to continue the war.
