Image Credit: Screenshot | X | @TimcastNews Federal immigration agents came under siege from open borders militants during the arrest of a Venezuelan illegal alien and suspected gang member in the sanctuary state of Illinois last weekend, authorities say.
On Sunday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) pulled over a vehicle driven by Luis Jesus Acosta Gutierrez in Elgin, a city in the Chicago suburbs.
Acosta, a suspected Tren de Aragua terrorist, rammed an officer’s sedan into a tree and fled on foot, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The Venezuelan then stormed into a random apartment and barricaded himself inside.
“The suspected gang member came out on the apartment’s balcony and officers tried to negotiate with him to leave the apartment,” DHS says.
“During this time, a large crowd of agitators formed and began throwing rocks and bottles at law enforcement officers. The local police department refused to protect ICE law enforcement officers.”
Footage of the mob attacking and harassing federal agents was published by Timcast News.
Acosta was eventually taken into custody after hours of negotiation.
Acosta illegally entered the U.S. in April 2023. He was unleashed into the country by the Biden regime and later granted Temporary Protected Status.
“This yet again underscores the serious lack of vetting by Biden administration on the millions of aliens they allowed to come into the country,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
“Thankfully, under President Trump and Secretary Noem, this administration terminated his TPS, arrested him and removed him from our streets.”
No agents were injured during the ordeal, which comes amid a 1,150% increase in assaults on immigration officers.
Acosta has been placed in removal proceedings.
