Police officers on patrol in Dublin, Ireland, were ambushed by a knife-wielding assailant shouting “Allahu akbar,” according to reports.
The shocking attack unfolded in broad daylight on Tuesday on iconic Capel Street in the city center.
Witness footage shows a man run up behind two Garda officers on foot patrol and proceed to stab one of them in the back several times while yelling Islamic slogans.
Incredibly, multiple bystanders interfered in the suspect’s arrest, hampering officers’ efforts to subdue him.
The attacker was identified as Abdullah Khan, an “Irish born and bred Irish citizen of Pakistani descent,” according to mainstream media.

A man of Pakistani heritage stabbed a garda in the streets of Dublin last night…
There is a lot of confusion about whether or not the man is Irish, he's not.

Khan is facing charges for assault causing harm to the Garda and production of a knife capable of causing serious injury.
Defense solicitor Colleen Gildernew “asked that Mr Khan be provided with medical attention in custody and that reporting restrictions be imposed on identifying his address because she said there were safety concerns. She also said she would provide a statement of his means next week,” RTE reports.
“The judge directed Mr Khan’s address not be published and granted him free legal aid before remanding him in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court next Wednesday.”
One officer was treated for stab injuries and released from hospital on Tuesday night.
