Image Credit: @ZelenskyyUa / X screenshot On Friday Ukraine’s Dictator Vladimir Zelensky announced that his government struck a defense deal with U.S. ally Saudi Arabia to bolster the fight against Iran. Importantly, Kiev is fighting Moscow which also aids Tehran which is fighting Washington which aids Kiev.
We have reached an important Arrangement between the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on defense cooperation. The document was signed ahead of our meeting with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud. It lays the foundation for future contracts, technological cooperation, and investment. It also strengthens Ukraine’s international role as a security donor.
We are ready to share our expertise and systems with Saudi Arabia and to work together to strengthen the protection of lives. Now into the fifth year, Ukrainians are resisting the same kind of terrorist attacks – ballistic missiles and drones – that the Iranian regime is currently carrying out in the Middle East and the Gulf region. Saudi Arabia also has capabilities that are of interest to Ukraine, and this cooperation can be mutually beneficial.
We also discussed the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region as a whole, Russia’s assistance to the Iranian regime, developments in fuel markets, and potential energy cooperation.
Thank you for the meeting.
On Sunday Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on the international community to join the war on the side of the Jewish State. Zelensky, who is Jewish, answered that call.
When the Ukrainian Dictator offered the U.S. his assistance President Donald Trump turned down the offer.
“No, we don’t need (Ukraine’s) help in drone defense,” Trump said in a Fox News interview. “We know more about drones than anybody. We have the best drones in the world, actually.”
Ironically Trump’s statement about “the best drones in the world” may also apply to Iran, as the Obama administration effectively “gifted” a U.S. drone to the Islamic Republic in 2011. The Christian Science Monitor reported in 2011 that:
Iran guided the CIA’s “lost” stealth drone to an intact landing inside hostile territory by exploiting a navigational weakness long-known to the US military, according to an Iranian engineer now working on the captured drone’s systems inside Iran.
Iranian electronic warfare specialists were able to cut off communications links of the American bat-wing RQ-170 Sentinel, says the engineer, who works for one of many Iranian military and civilian teams currently trying to unravel the drone’s stealth and intelligence secrets, and who could not be named for his safety.
Using knowledge gleaned from previous downed American drones and a technique proudly claimed by Iranian commanders in September, the Iranian specialists then reconfigured the drone’s GPS coordinates to make it land in Iran at what the drone thought was its actual home base in Afghanistan.
“We’ve asked for it back. We’ll see how the Iranians respond,” Obama said following the incident.
Iran refused Obama’s request.
“No nation welcomes other countries’ spy drones in its territory, and no one sends back the spying equipment and its information back to the country of origin,” deputy commander of Iran’s military Gen. Hossein Salami said.
