The number of illegal aliens present in the United States is likely far higher than misleading estimates put forth by the mainstream media or most government officials, according Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier.
“I don’t even know where to begin. I hate to say the number that is probably there, but I think in this country we’ve got a lot more than people estimate,” AG Uthmeier told immigration news outlet Border Hawk during an interview on Wednesday.
“We don’t ask on the census any questions about immigration status, which I hope will change in the future, but I think it could be upwards of 40 or 50 million.”
Uthmeier detailed efforts being undertaken by the Sunshine State to crack down on illegal immigration — including verifying that foreign commercial drivers are fit to be on the roads.
“We’re also checking to make sure people speak English and that illegal aliens are not being given these commercial licenses in other states, which are not valid in the state of Florida,” he explained.
“Obviously, we saw the tragic accident a couple of weeks back where someone that could not read English road signs engaged in a dangerous u-turn that ultimately cost three people their lives. Since then, as we’ve been doing inspections, we’ve detained several people that are illegally in the United States and getting these licenses from sanctuary jurisdictions. So, it’s just another way to protect Florida families.”
Florida officials unveiled a new detention center for illegal aliens this week, just hours after a federal appeals court ruled the state can continue operating Alligator Alcatraz, a similar facility in the Everglades.
On Thursday, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the grand opening of ‘Deportation Depot,’ located inside the former Baker Correctional Institution in Sanderson, an unincorporated community in northeast Florida.
Yet another immigration detention center is reportedly being planned at Camp Blanding, a Florida National Guard training base that lies between Jacksonville and Gainesville.
