Residents of Baltimore, Maryland, shocked former CNN anchor Don Lemon Friday telling him they back President Trump’s proposal to send the National Guard to tackle the city’s crime.
One lifelong resident told Lemon she supports the military crackdown since her husband was killed three years ago outside their home during a botched carjacking, where he was shot dead by the burglars.
“And you would like to see the [National Guard] troops here?” Lemon asked.
“Yes,” she replied.
Another resident asked what he thought about Trump sending troops to Maryland replied, “I’m not opposed of it.”
“I think it’d be a good idea,” the Black Muslim man replied, adding, “Maybe he can clean up some of these crime-ridden neighborhoods.”
“It’d be a breath of fresh air,” he added.
Yet another Baltimore native said crime in the city was “getting out of hand.”
“All these killings all the time. The murder rates are going higher and higher, and all the drugs,” the man said. “Send troops to straighten everything out. Make Baltimore great again.”
The Baltimore residents’ testimonies come as Washington DC locals last month praised Trump’s military crackdown for cleaning up their city, as overall data shows crime rates in the nation’s capital significantly declined following the initiative.
While some criticize the Trump administration for allegedly imposing martial law, desperate residents tired of rampant lawlessness want their cities made safe again.
