Fitness influencer and gym culture commentator Joey Swoll faced backlash after apologizing for posting a photo commemorating the late wrestler Hulk Hogan, which sparked criticism from the left claiming he was honoring a racist.
The incident began last Friday when Swoll, whose content consists of criticizing bad gym behavior, posted a photo to X of him wearing a Hulk Hogan Halloween costume, writing, “RIP to a legend and one of my inspirations to start working out. @HulkHogan”

The post triggered the woke left mob, with many claiming Swoll was celebrating a racist because Hulk Hogan at one time remarked (on surreptitiously recorded audio) that he preferred his daughter not date poor black men, saying, “I mean, I’d rather if she was going to f–k some n—-r, I’d rather have her marry an 8-foot-tall n—-r worth a hundred million dollars! Like a basketball player…I guess we’re all a little racist. F–king n—-r.”
Following the backlash, Swoll caved, took down the post and issued an apology.
“I owe my followers, my community, and all of social media and apology,” he said in a video post Tuesday. “A few days ago, I reposted an old video of me in the gym wearing a Hulk Hogan Halloween costume on the day that he passed.”
“Last night in my livestream, a lot of people expressed how upset and frustrated they were with me that I had posted that,” he explained. “Instead of listening and understanding like I should have, I became defensive and said that I was posting to celebrate the wrestling icon, the person that so many of us looked up to his kids that we grew up with that made us tear our shirts and take our vitamins and say our prayers.”
Influencer Joey Swoll posts a groveling apology for praising Hulk Hogan. He thanks the leftist trolls for “educating” him. Absolutely pathetic. Inexcusable to cave to the woke mob at any time, but to cave to them in 2025? Baffling.

“I didn’t know to the extent of all the horrible things that he had done. Since last night, I have done a lot of research, talked to a few people and learned all of the horrible, horrible things that that man has done, which is way more than just making a mistake in being human. So because of that, I have taken the videos down and I apologize to anybody that I offended. I am sorry.”
The regretful influencer wasn’t done apologizing.
“Also during last night’s livestream, I used the word colored instead of saying person of color, which is a very outdated, very offensive term. A few moments later, somebody educated me and told me that it wasn’t okay to use that, which I immediately apologized to everyone and said, I would never do that again. So once again, to anybody that I offended, I am sorry.”
While Swoll’s groveling may have appeased some leftists, his capitulation only served to embolden the left and anger the right, with many informing him apologizing was absolutely the wrong move.
I speak on behalf of ALL blacks when I say that we love Hulk Hogan and we hate PUSSIES like Joey Swoll

One X post compared his backlash to the criticism actress Sydney Sweeney has received over her American Eagle jeans ad, pointing out Sweeney never caved.
Evidently the controversy got to Swoll, and on Tuesday he penned a statement claiming he was “done.”
“All the good I’ve done, all the people I’ve helped, all for nothing,” Swoll wrote. “I truly hope all the people I’ve inspired do great things in their life and pay it forward to help others and carry on my message. But no matter how much good you do, people just wait for a reason to hate you and tear you down. You either die a hero, or live long enough to be the villain. Thank you for your support. I am done.”
A few hours after quitting, the ripped influencer appeared to come to his senses posting he likely just needed to take a step back and “breathe.”
A lot of people upset with me calling me weak and a quitter or worse. They’re not wrong and I deserve it but just so we’re clear and you can walk a mile in my shoes. They sent messages telling me they know where I live and they were going to unalive me. That’s fine I can handle…

In the end, hopefully Swoll learned a valuable lesson: never apologize because it will never be enough.
