Joe Kent, the Director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) who announced his resignation on Tuesday, will join two major programs this week to provide more insight into why he decided to step down from his position.
Kent issued a statement directed at President Donald Trump on Tuesday, saying he would no longer serve in the administration because he could not in “good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran.”
On Wednesday evening, Kent will talk with journalist Tucker Carlson, who has also been critical of the war.
Meanwhile, radio host Mark Levin, who has been critical of Kent’s decision and statement, asked him to do an hour-long interview next week and Kent responded, “Sure. Let’s go.”
Levin previously went on an unhinged tirade accusing Kent of telling Carlson that he had a White House meeting with President Donald Trump last summer where Levin allegedly promoted U.S. military intervention in Iran.
Carlson posted on social media in June of last year, “Mark Levin was at the White House today, lobbying for war with Iran. To be clear, Levin has no plans to fight in this or any other war. He’s demanding that American troops do it. We need to stop Iran from building nuclear weapons, he and likeminded ideologues in Washington are now arguing. They’re just weeks away.”
Levin wrote, “I know for a fact Kent leaked to Tucker Carlson a meeting the President had with me, at the President’s request, which Carlson in turn used on the internet. No President should be treated like that. Apparently, there were more. Not good. And the appalling antisemitism in Kent’s public letter deserves judgment, which is why so many of all faiths are condemning it.”
He also said his Jewish grandfather who fought on Iwo Jima as a marine would “be furious” at Kent’s resignation and criticism of Trump.
The comment Levin made about his marine grandfather is odd because Kent received six bronze stars for his 11 combat tours in Iraq, Yemen and North Africa as an Army Special Forces soldier, also serving as a paramilitary officer at the CIA.
Podcast host Candace Owens announced she’ll be interviewing Kent on Thursday at a Catholics event in Washington, D.C.
