Image Credit: NYPD Authorities are searching for a suspect who lit a sleeping homeless man on fire in a subway car in New York City this week, according to reports.
The horrifying attack unfolded at around 3:00 a.m. on Monday in Manhattan.
The suspect, a brown or black male wearing a hoodie and backpack, entered a train car at the 34th Street—Penn Station Subway station, set his unsuspecting victim ablaze, fled onto the platform, and boarded another train.
The 56-year-old man was engulfed in flames and suffered severe burns to his legs — NYPD officers even found skin stuck to seats in the carriage, the New York Post reports.
The victim is being treated at New York-Presbyterian/Weil Cornell Medical Center. His current condition has not been made public at this time.
NYPD released surveillance footage of the suspect walking through a subway station in hopes of obtaining more information about him or his whereabouts.
Several similar acts of depravity have been carried out on public transportation in U.S. cities in the past year.
Last month, 26-year-old Bethany MaGee was set on fire aboard a Chicago train by a suspect with 72 prior arrests identified as Lawrence Reed.
Debrina Kawam, a 57-year-old homeless woman from New Jersey, was set ablaze as she slept in a subway car in Brooklyn on Dec. 22, 2024.
Sebastian Zapeta-Calil, a previously-deported illegal alien from Guatemala, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
